Before launching "Five Nights at Freddy's" in 2014, game creator Scott Cawthon made hundreds of other independent games. The primary character of "Chipper & Son's Lumber Co." is a cute beaver chewing on logs. Cawthon's game received some negative reviews because, they said, it looked like a terrifying mechanical beast. Cawthon did not let this deter him; rather, after discovering that people were afraid of artificial creatures, he utilized this anxiety as motivation for his next invention. And so, the horror video game classic "Five Nights at Freddy's," complete with its four scary, bloodthirsty monsters, was conceived.
